Cargill – Wooster, Ohio Named 2011 Feed Mill of the Year
Cargill Animal Nutrition of Wooster, Ohio, is the 2011 Feed Mill of the Year, as named by the American Feed Industry Association and Feedstuffs, the sponsors of the annual program. Southern States Cooperative’s Winchester Mill in Winchester, Ky., is the runner-up.

Fifth Annual Pet Food Conference at IFE 2012
The 2012 Pet Food Conference will be held in Atlanta, Ga., Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the International Feed Expo/International Poultry Expo, the annual event organized by the American Feed Industry Association in conjunction with the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association. The conference covers a variety of topics ranging from regulatory issues to the technical aspects of production, food safety, marketing and use of ingredients.

Downey Receives AFIA Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Dave Downey has been named the 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from the American Feed Industry Association. Dr. Downey is the founder and executive director of the Center for Agricultural Business (CAB) at Purdue University. He was honored at the American Feed Industry Association’s Board of Directors meeting this week in Kansas City, Mo.

Feed Industry Welcomes Passage of Trade Agreements
The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) is pleased with the Congressional passage of the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Panama, Colombia and South Korea. Combined, the trade agreements are expected to create 20,000 jobs while increasing exports by $2.3 billion.

AFIA Regulatory Training Short Course Concludes
More than 120 people attended AFIA’s Regulatory Training Short Course that provided intensive training on how to work as a regulatory professional in the feed, ingredient and pet food industry. The day-and-a-half meeting concluded yesterday in Arlington, Va. The short course was designed for experienced regulatory directors, allowing them to interact with government officials and develop strategies to tackle the issues impacting their business.

AFIA Supports Renewable Fuel Standard Legislation
The American Feed Industry Association strongly supports H.R. 3097, the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) Flexibility Act, legislation introduced by Representatives Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Jim Costa (D-Calif.), to give the Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture the needed authority to adjust the congressionally mandated Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) for corn-based ethanol when national corn stocks fall below specified levels.

Feed Industry Testifies Before House Ag Subcommittee Hearing on Feed Availability
“The supply/demand/price challenges confronting U.S. feed availability and the economic future of animal agriculture are no longer a ‘he said, she said’ political debate; they’re real, their potential consequences are broad and they’re worsening on a daily basis,” Philip Greene, vice president of Foster Commodities, Foster Poultry Farms, told a House Committee on Agriculture’s Subcommittee hearing on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry today in Washington, D.C.
