Belstra Milling
The Indiana Veterinary Medical Association has recognized Belstra Milling Company in DeMotte, Ind., with its “One Welfare” Recognition Award. The recognition is presented to pay tribute to an Indiana resident or company promoting the advancement of animal welfare issues through outstanding service, education, or research, or who provides exemplary care to agricultural animals and/or has significantly improved the welfare of agricultural animals in the state.

CJ America, Inc. & Sanimax
CJ America, Inc. and Sanimax announced a new strategic partnership for distribution of amino acids to the Canadian feed industry. The partnership will provide CJ America with an opportunity to renew focus on servicing the Canadian feed industry.  “We are confident that with Sanimax supporting the distribution of our amino acids, customers will be able to count on CJ long term,” said Mark Niles, general manager of CJ America, Inc.

Dr. Mark Lyons, of Alltech, Emily Meredith of Animal Agriculture Alliance, Dr. Matt Ritter of Elanco, Dr. Todd Billby of Merck Animal Health, Dr. Edward Cargill of Monsanto, Dr. Kyle Freeman of The Mosaic Company and Jeffrey Defrain of Zinpro were selected as recipients of Vance Publishing’s “40 Under 40 in Agriculture Award.” Award recipients are acknowledged for their outstanding contributions and commitment in advancing the cause to double food production by 2050. The top 40 were selected from a pool of more than 200 applicants.

Diamond V welcomed government officials to their South Plant in Cedar Rapids Iowa mid-January. Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds along with U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley and Iowa House District 95 Rep.Quentin Stanerson made the appearance as part of the “Building Iowa’s Future” tour. In addition to welcoming special guests this year, Diamond V also announced Jeff Cannon, current AFIA chairman, as the company’s new president and CEO.

Evonik Industries
Evonik Industries sponsored an educational program for collegiate agriculture students, providing participants—divided in to two teams (Team Purple and Team Silver)—a hands-on 3-week agricultural experience. Students traveled to cities nationwide including Chicago, Ill., as well as small towns such as Morton, Miss., while touring processing plants, feed mills, research centers and farms. More details at

The Automated Process Equipment Corporation, or APEC, was named one of the 2013 “Michigan’s 50 Companies to Watch;” an award program sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation and presented by “Michigan Celebrates Small Businesses.” Companies chosen for the award are defined as having six to 99 fulltime employees and generating $750,000 to $50 million annually or working capital from investors.
