It has been many years since the American Feed Industry Association has updated its database and website. With all the recent changes and improvements in technology, including things such as responsive design (allowing websites to display properly on all screen resolutions and mobile devices), AFIA felt the time had come to update much of the website and membership database infrastructure.
Beginning in early summer 2014, AFIA’s website, www.afia.org, including the members-only section, will be updated, as well as our membership database.
So what does this mean to you?
First and foremost, we hope that you will be able to find information quicker and easier than in the past. The last two years we have been tracking the use of the various web pages and we will make sure that the pages most visited will be easier to find. We will also be unveiling several new and improved features on the website including:
Online Advocacy Tool - This will allow members to become more engaged with your congressional representatives on key issues impacting the feed and pet food industry. AFIA will certainly provide templates and training on this module, so that you feel comfortable reaching out and explaining the issue.
Easier event registration - The new system will allow one person to register multiple people. This has been a request from many AFIA members and we look forward to moving to an easier system for event registrations.
Online membership directory - With the upgrade of mobile devices from smart phones to tablets, many people no longer rely on paper copies of documents. Based on surveys from AFIA executives, we will no longer print our annual membership directory and instead will offer an online directory. This means contact information will be updated as soon as members submit changes. In addition, companies will no longer have to limit the names of people listed in their listing. More details will be sent to members on how to keep this information up-to-date and how to access this member’s only benefit!
More robust committee pages - AFIA committees and member interest groups will have their own page of information on the member’s only website, including rosters and details from past meetings. In addition, AFIA members can self-select being involved in MIGs in the future! Committee will still require appointments and approvals.
Expanded Members-Only website: One of the major focus points for AFIA staff is to develop and expand the members-only website. AFIA has many reference materials and guidance documents that members request and look for. We will be creating a better “library” of resources for our members to access anytime. Of course, AFIA staff are always available to answer questions and assist you, but this will be another resource for members to access.
Watch your email in the coming months for more details on these tools and services.
