AFIA Commends Introduction of Vital Supply Chain Legislation

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) commends Representatives Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa-02, and Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich.-07, for introducing the Securing American Agriculture Act (H.R. 8003) The bill would require the U.S. Department of Agriculture to study global supply chain markets for U.S. agricultural inputs, including feed ingredients like vitamins and amino acids used in animal feed and pet food production. The AFIA supports this bill, given its members’ concerns over the vulnerability of the animal food supply chain given China’s domination of the vitamin supply market.

AFIA Supports the EMIT LESS Act Introduced in the Senate

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) applauds Senators Michael Bennet, D-Colo., Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., and Senator Jerry Moran, R-Kan., on the introduction of the Enteric Methane Innovation Tools for Lower Emissions and Sustainable Stock (EMIT LESS) Act (S. 4056). By expanding the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s research and incentivizing the adoption of emission-reducing practices on farms, the bill aims to mitigate the significant environmental impact of enteric methane emissions from American dairy and beef cattle operations.

Animal Food Industry Gathers at PISC for Networking, Education

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) hosted its annual Purchasing and Ingredient Suppliers Conference (PISC) last week, March 12-14, in San Antonio, Texas. The conference brought together nearly 600 feed ingredient buyers and sellers, including over 100 first-time attendees. During the three-day conference, attendees conducted business meetings, attended educational sessions and participated in various networking opportunities.

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), in partnership with Feedstuffs, named ADM’s animal nutrition feed facility in Bluffton, Ind., as its 2023 Premix/Ingredient Feed Facility of the Year. Gary Huddleston, AFIA’s director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs, presented the award Wednesday to plant manager Brent Weedman during AFIA’s Purchasing and Ingredient Suppliers Conference, happening this week in San Antonio.

The American Feed Industry (AFIA) is pleased to announce that Gina Tumbarello, AFIA’s senior director of global strategies, policy and trade, has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to serve on the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness. Tumbarello will be instrumental in advising the committee on the development and administration of programs and policies to strengthen the competitiveness and resiliency of U.S. supply chains used throughout the animal food chain.
