AFIA Announces Organization Change for Legislative and Regulatory Department in 2019

The American Feed Industry Association’s (AFIA) President and CEO Joel G. Newman announced late yesterday to AFIA staff and the association’s Board of Directors that Leah Wilkinson, AFIA’s current vice president of legislative, regulatory and state affairs, will lead AFIA’s Legislative and Regulatory department starting in 2019. Wilkinson will assume the role currently held by Richard Sellers, AFIA’s senior vice president of public policy and education, following his retirement from the association at the end of 2018. Effective immediately her title is vice president of public policy and education.

AFIA's EMC Learns to Move with Purpose, Raises Funds for Scholarship

The American Feed Industry Association’s annual Equipment Manufacturers Conference (EMC) brought 41 attendees to Orlando, Florida, last week. The event, hosted by the AFIA Equipment Manufacturers Committee, focused on assessing risk management in the equipment manufacturing industry, while providing opportunities to network and raise money for the EMC scholarship fund.

AFIA Issues Statement on Long-Awaited FDA Guidance

The American Feed Industry Association applauded the Food and Drug Administration today for taking a step in the right direction in issuing long-awaited guidance for the feed industry to comply with several parts of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). AFIA urges the agency to provide time for compliance as the industry fully reviews the guidance and implements the necessary, and sometimes costly, changes at its facilities.

New Research Project Evaluates Salmonella Risk in Animal Feed Production

The Institute for Feed Education & Research (IFEEDER) along with several partners—including the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), National Pork Board, National Renderers Association, Poultry Protein and Fat Council, U.S. Poultry and Egg Association, and U.S. Soybean Board—has launched a new research project with the University of Arkansas to analyze whether animal feed contains any of the serotypes from the bacteria Salmonella that could pose a health threat to livestock. The yearlong project is aimed at helping the animal feed industry better understand if the bacteria is prevalent at their manufacturing facilities so that it can make more informed decisions on what additional safety measures, if any, should be taken to promote feed safety and protect animal health.

AFIA 'Runs for the Roses' at Liquid Feed Symposium

The American Feed Industry Association has wrapped up the country’s largest gathering of liquid supplement leaders, hearing from experts on the latest news, research and innovation happening in the field and recognizing outstanding individuals. The 47th annual Liquid Feed Symposium, held in Louisville, Kentucky, highlighted the pivotal role that liquid feed has in fueling America’s livestock industry with its theme, “Run for the Roses.”

Joe Saini Inducted Into Liquid Feed Hall of Fame

The American Feed Industry Association is pleased to announce Joe Saini as its 2017 Liquid Feed Hall of Fame inductee. The AFIA Liquid Feed Committee presented the award–the highest award offered within the liquid feed industry—to Saini today during a luncheon at AFIA’s Liquid Feed Symposium, being held this week in Louisville, Kentucky.

Latest Safe Feed/Safe Food Guidance Document Helps Feed Manufacturers Comply with FSMA

The American Feed Industry Association’s third-party certification program, FSC36 Safe Feed/Safe Food, has released a new guidance document that helps pet and animal food manufacturers better understand what is required of them through the Food Safety Modernization Act. The updated guidance document—version 7.0—now includes a section on current good manufacturing practices (CGMP) and FSMA record-keeping requirements, as well as instructions on how to develop a site-specific food safety plan and hazard analysis.
