AFIA Applauds Passage of Bill to Improve Federal Process for Approving New Animal Drugs and Animal Food Ingredients

The American Feed Industry Association commends Congress for sending a bill to the president this week for signature — the Animal Drug and Animal Generic Drug User Fee Amendments of 2018 (H.R. 5554). This bipartisan legislation will continue providing the necessary resources to support the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine with completing more expeditious reviews of new animal drugs and improving FDA’s review and approval process for animal food ingredients.

AFIA Opens Registration for Equipment Manufacturers Conference

Registration is now open for the American Feed Industry Association’s Equipment Manufacturers Conference, being held Nov. 7-9 in San Antonio, Texas. Hosted by AFIA’s Equipment Manufacturers Committee, this annual conference brings together equipment designers, manufacturers and installers and feed production professionals from across the United States.

AFIA Urges FDA to Take a Flexible Approach to HA/PC Regulations

In the spirit of continuing its dialogue with the Food and Drug Administration on the rules and implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), today, the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) submitted comments to the agency on its draft guidance on Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls (HA/PC) for Food for Animals. The 38-page comments affirm the animal food industry’s commitment to a “full and successful implementation of FSMA” across its varied industries but urges the agency to take a flexible approach when regulating under this rule.

ARIA Recognizes Animal Scientists with Nutrition Research Awards

The American Feed Industry Association honored two individuals in the animal science field at the American Society of Animal Science annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada, July 9. Juan Loor, Ph.D., of the University of Illinois, received the AFIA-ASAS Ruminant Animal Nutrition Research Award, and Ruurd Zijlstra, Ph.D., of the University of Alberta, Canada, received the AFIA-ASAS Non-Ruminant Animal Nutrition Research Award.

AFIA Honors Two Nutrition Awards Winners

The American Feed Industry Association honored two individuals in the animal science field at the American Dairy Science Association annual meeting in Knoxville, Tenn., June 25. Ian J. Lean, Ph.D., of Scibus received the AFIA-ADSA Nutrition Research Award, and Ronald L. Horst, Ph.D., of Heartland Assays received the AFIA and Federation of Animal Science Societies New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition Award.

Registration Opens for Fall Online Feed Manufacturing Course

The American Feed Industry Association has opened registration for its online feed manufacturing course, conducted in partnership with Kansas State University, Aug. 27-Sept. 28. The five-week, “AFIA 500: Fundamentals of Feed Manufacturing” distance education program provides an in-depth understanding of the feed manufacturing process, while allowing participants to work at their own pace and engage in online discussions with other students and university instructors.
