The past year has been like no other. On March 11, 2020, when the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a pandemic, the personal and professional lives of more than 944,000 employees of the U.S. animal food industry forever changed.
The International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) Marketplace Week may be over, but the learning opportunities are far from done! IPPE’s TECHTalks, which are short educational presentations that discuss what the latest and greatest is out of the poultry, egg, meat and feed industries, are still available to watch on the IPPE Marketplace until Sunday, Feb. 28.
“Buckle up, it may be a wild ride,” said Gary Huddleston, the American Feed Industry Association’s director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs, at the 2021 Feed Education Program.
One of my favorite things about attending the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) is slowly walking the halls to see what exhibitors are showing. I am in awe at all the new technologies and the creativity behind creating them. Well, even though we can’t walk through the halls this year, we can still browse through really cool and innovative products and technologies through short company videos in the Innovation Station/New Product Showcase.
Every year, new research and innovation comes forward to improve pet health and nutrition. At the American Feed Industry Association’s Pet Food Conference yesterday, we had the opportunity to recognize two of our industry colleagues who have helped make pet food safe and nutritious. Through the Friend of Pet Food Award, AFIA is able to recognize those who are making significant contributions to support the growth of the pet food industry. It is our pleasure to thank 2021’s amazing individuals! Hear what some of their industry peers had to say about these award winners below.
For the most part, 2020 is not a year most people will look back on favorably (I know I won't). It turned the world upside down and brought all of our everyday lives to a screeching halt. However, one thing that I will look back on with fond thoughts is that our AFIA Feed Bites blog turned one year old.
We know it’s been a challenging year, which is why the American Feed Industry Association staff are more thankful for our members than ever. To show our gratitude, several staff members got together and created a fun video.
Over the past few months, I have been reflecting on the growing number of people who are in need of food assistance due to furloughs and layoffs from the coronavirus pandemic. Feeding America estimates that more than 50 million people, including 17 million children, could be food insecure this year due to the downtrodden economy. As a working-from-home mom, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen making sure my children eat balanced, nutritious meals, and cannot imagine the difficult choices facing some parents to keep their families fed during these trying times.
Halloween is one of my all-time favorite holidays. I love everything about it – the candy, costumes, scary stories, haunted houses – you name it. And since making Feed Facts are one of my favorite things to do for my job, I thought I ought to combine them and make some fun Halloween Feed Facts. I hope you enjoy these graphics and if you would like to share them on social media, you can click to download them. Happy Halloween from the American Feed Industry Association!
Every year, the American Feed Industry Association has the honor of thanking those who have greatly impacted our industry in a positive way. These outstanding individuals represent the ‘best of the best,’ exhibiting amazing expertise to help the AFIA achieve its goals and objectives, providing outstanding support to the entire feed industry throughout their careers and making significant contributions to animal feed.
